Many homeowners look to mechanical assistance to save time and physical effort.
In this article, we provide a comprehensive look at the Ewbank EP170 floor cleaner scrubber polisher reviews to determine if this 3-in-1 machine lives up to its promises. We will explore its technical design, marketing claims, and independent feedback to help you decide if it belongs in your cleaning closet in 2026.
What Is the Ewbank EP170 Floor Cleaner Scrubber Polisher?
The Ewbank EP170 is a corded, electric floor maintenance machine designed specifically for residential use. Unlike industrial buffers that are heavy and difficult to maneuver, the EP170 is marketed as a lightweight alternative for the average homeowner.
The unit features a “butterfly” handle design and dual contra-rotating discs that spin at a high velocity. It is presented as a versatile tool that can transition between scrubbing, cleaning, and polishing simply by swapping out the attachments. In most retail packages, the machine comes with:
- Two nylon bristle scrubbing brushes.
- Two hook-and-loop backing plates.
- A variety of reusable, washable pads (typically scouring, cleaning, and buffing/polishing versions).
While many modern appliances are moving toward battery power, the EP170 remains a corded device, ensuring consistent power delivery without the “fade” often associated with cordless motors.
Marketing Claims & How It’s Supposed to Work
The core appeal of the Ewbank EP170 lies in its efficiency. The manufacturer claims that the 160W motor and its 2,200 RPM rotation speed allow users to cover approximately 10 square feet per minute.
Key Advertised Benefits:
- Deep Cleaning: The contra-rotating discs are designed to provide a “cyclonic” scrubbing action that lifts dirt more effectively than a manual mop.
- Ergonomics: It features a telescopic handle that adjusts to the user’s height, reducing the need to bend over. The butterfly grip allows for both one-handed and two-handed operation.
- Multi-Surface Compatibility: It is advertised as safe for almost all sealed hard floors, including laminate, wood, vinyl, marble, granite, and linoleum.
- Convenience: With a 23-foot power cord and a weight of around 7 to 8 lbs, it is intended to be portable enough to carry between floors or move around furniture.
Independent Evidence & Red Flags
When looking at Ewbank EP170 floor cleaner scrubber polisher reviews, it is important to distinguish between “lab-tested” performance and real-world results. This device holds standard safety certifications like the ETL listing, but it does not claim to be a “medical grade” or “sanitization” tool like some steam-based cleaners.
Potential Red Flags to Consider:
- Power vs. Pressure: While 2,200 RPM is fast, the machine is very lightweight. Some users have noted that because it lacks “heft,” you may need to apply manual downward pressu Oct 14, 2026 · Long Handle Shower Scrubber with 9 Replaceable Heads - 2 Speed Cordless Brush Ensures Long Battery Life, Modern Design! …Read more re for deep-set stains, which can counteract the “effortless” marketing.
- Not a Water Extractor: A common misconception is that this machine functions like a vacuum or a “carpet cleaner” for hard floors. If you use it for wet scrubbing, you will still need to manually mop or wipe up the dirty residue afterward.
- Delicate Surfaces: Although it is marketed for all hard floors, some users suggest caution on older, unsealed wood or very soft laminate, as the high-speed brushes can be abrasive if used incorrectly.
User Experience & Real-World Feedback
Feedback for the EP170 is generally balanced, with a significant number of users praising its ability to restore shine to dull floors. In many Ewbank EP170 floor cleaner scrubber polisher reviews, the “polishing” and “buffing” functions receive the highest marks. Owners of large tiled areas or hardwood floors frequently mention that it provides a “showroom shine” that is difficult to achieve with a hand-cloth.
However, the experience is not universal. Some cautionary notes from users include:
- Grout Cleaning: While the nylon brushes can reach into grout lines, results depend heavily on the cleaning solution used alongside the machine. It is a “helper,” not a miracle worker for years of neglected buildup.
- Motor Heat: Some reviews indicate that during extended use on very large areas, the motor can become warm, suggesting it is best suited for room-by-room cleaning rather than a single, multi-hour deep clean of an entire house.
- Pad Durability: While the pads are washable, frequent use on rough surfaces like textured stone can wear them down faster than expected.
Who Might Benefit & Safety Tips
The Ewbank EP170 is a niche tool. It is not a replacement for a daily vacuum or a quick spill mop, but rather a specialized device for deep maintenance.

- Test First: Always test a small, inconspicuous area before using the nylon brushes on a new floor type.
- Cable Management: With a 23-foot cord, always be mindful of the cable’s position to avoid tripping or tangling the cord in the rotating discs.
- No Submerging: Never submerge the base of the machine in water. Use a spray bottle or a lightly damp floor to apply cleaning solutions.
- Dry Storage: Ensure the pads are completely dry before storing them to prevent mildew.
