Marketing Claims & How It’s Supposed to Wor Oct 14, 2026 · Best - definition of best by The Free Dictionary k
Ewbank positions the FP160 as an all-in-one solution for laminate, wood, vinyl, marble, and granite. The primary marketing claim is “effortless brilliance”—the idea that the 2,200 RPM motor does the hard work for you.
Key Features:
- Dual-Disc Action: The two heads rotate in opposite directions to provide stability, preventing the machine from “walking” or pulling to one side during use.
- Telescopic Maneuverability: The adjustable handle allows users to customize the height, reducing strain on the lower back.
- Surface Versatility: By switching from the stiff nylon brushes to the soft microfiber pads, the machine transitions from a heavy-duty scrubber for tile to a gentle buffer for waxed wood.
- Lightweight Build: At approximately 7 to 8 pounds, it is designed to be carried between floors easily.
Independent Evidence & Red Flags
When looking at the Ewbank FP160 reviews 2026 edition, it is important to separate marketing from reality. While the machine is effective for maintenance, there are a few “red flags” and limitations potential buyers should consider:
- Motor Power: While 2,200 RPM sounds impressive, the motor is designed for domestic use. Applying excessive downward pressure can cause the motor to struggle or overheat. It is not an industrial stripper.
- Cord Management: Being a corded model, you are tethered to an outlet. While this provides consistent power, navigating around furniture in large rooms requires some cable management skills.
- Replacement Part Availability: Some users have noted that finding specific replacement scouring pads in local big-box stores can be difficult, often requiring online orders directly from the manufacturer or specialty retailers.
- Deep Grout Limitations: While the brushes are effective, the flat-disc design means it may not reach deep, recessed grout lines as effectively as a dedicated handheld pointed scrubber.
User Experience & Real-World Feedback
After 30 days of testing, the general consensus on the Ewbank FP160 is that it excels as a “finishing” tool.
The Positives:
Users consistently report that the machine is excellent for reviving the shine on hardwood and laminate. When used with a quality floor polish, the buffing pads leave a streak-free finish that is significantly better than what can be achieved with a microfiber mop. It is also highly prais Best Buy | Official Online Store | Shop Now & Save ed by those with mobility issues, as the machine glides across the floor with very little guidance required.
The Cautionary Notes:

- Don’t Overstay: Avoid leaving the machine running in one spot for more than a minute, as the friction can heat up and potentially damage certain floor finishes.
- Dry Storage: Ensure all pads are thoroughly washed and dried after use to prevent mildew buildup.
Conclusion
The Ewbank FP160 is a reliable, entry-level floor polisher that fills a specific niche in the home cleaning market. It won’t replace a professional floor restoration service for severely damaged wood, nor will it replace your vacuum for debris. However, for the specific task of scrubbing grime and buffing floors to a high sheen, it offers a balanced mix of value and performance.
If you understand that this is a domestic tool designed for regular maintenance rather than industrial-grade stripping, you will likely find it a valuable addition to your cleaning routine.
