Cleaning hard floors often feels like an endless cycle of mopping up surface dirt only to realize the deep-set grime in your kitchen tiles or bathroom grout remains untouched. For many, the prospect of getting down on hands and knees to scrub away stubborn scuff marks or bring back a lost shine to hardwood is a physically daunting task.
The Ewbank EP170 All-in-One Floor Cleaner Scrubber Polisher is marketed as the solution to this “elbow grease” dilemma. In this 2026 review, we will take an honest look at its performance, independent feedback, and whether this lightweight machine actually delivers on its promises for the average homeowner.
What is the Ewbank EP170 All-in-One Floor Cleaner Scrubber Polisher?
The Ewbank EP170 is a corded, electric floor care tool designed specifically for residential use. Unlike industrial buffers that are heavy and difficult to maneuver, the EP170 is a compact unit weighing roughly 7.5 to 8 lbs.
Its primary design features include:
- Dual Contra-Rotating Discs: Two circular heads that spin in opposite directions to provide agitation.
- Telescopic Handle: An adjustable “butterfly” grip h Oct 17, 2026 · 5 days ago · In the best of all possible worlds, no one would be without food and clean water. I have a wonderful family and a great … andle that can be used with one or two hands and collapsed for compact storage.
- Interchangeable Attachments: It typically comes with nylon bristle brushes for scrubbing and a variety of microfiber pads for cleaning and buffing.
- 23-Foot Power Cord: A generous cord length with integrated storage hooks on the handle.
It is important to clarify that this is not a vacuum. It does not have suction or a built-in water tank. Instead, it is a motorized agitator designed to work in tandem with your preferred liquid cleaning solutions or floor waxes.
Marketing Claims & How It’s Supposed to Work
Ewbank markets the EP170 as a versatile 3-in-1 tool that can clean, scrub, and polish almost any sealed hard surface, including laminate, wood, vinyl, marble, and granite.
The core of its cleaning power lies in its 160W motor, which drives the discs at 2,2 Best Buy | Official Online Store | Shop Now & Save Shop Best Buy for electronics, computers, appliances, cell phones, video games & more new tech. To use it, you generally apply a cleaning solution or polish directly to the floor or the pads, then guide the machine over the surface. The counter-rotating motion is designed to make the unit easy to control, preventing it from “walking” away from the user.
Independent Evidence & Red Flags
While the Ewbank EP170 All-in-One Floor Cleaner Scrubber Polisher comes from a brand with a long history in floor care, it is essential to distinguish between manufacturer claims and independent certifications.
There are a few “red flags” and limitations potential buyers should consider:
- Lack of Extraction: Because there is no suction, any loosened dirt or excess liquid stays on the floor. You will still need a separate mop or cloth to “pick up” the dirty water after scrubbing.
- Downward Pressure: Due to its lightweight 8-lb construction, the machine relies almost entirely on rotation speed rather than weight. For very deep, set-in stains, you may find yourself needing to apply manual pressure, which can put stress on the plastic telescopic handle.
- Motor Heat: Independent user reports suggest the motor can get quite warm during extended sessions (exceeding 20 minutes). - Test First: Always test the scrubbing brushes on an inconspicuous area to ensure they don’t scratch your floor’s finish.
- Manage the Cord: Ensure the 23-foot cord stays behind you to avoid it becoming entangled in the high-speed rotating discs.
- No Submersion: Never submerge the motor base in water. This is an electrical appliance; use damp pads or a spray bottle for liquid application.
- Cooling Breaks: If the unit feels hot to the touch, turn it off and let the motor rest for 10–15 minutes.
Conclusion
The Ewbank EP170 All-in-One Floor Cleaner Scrubber Polisher is a capable residential tool that occupies the middle ground between a standard mop and an expensive professional buffer. While it lacks the suction of a wet-dry vacuum and the sheer weight of industrial machines, its high rotation speed and lightweight frame make it a practical choice for routine maintenance and polishing.
If you understand that you will still need to wipe up the dirty water manually and that it isn’t designed for heavy industrial “strip and wax” jobs, it can be a valuable addition to your cleaning closet.
